Peter Simonite, ASC, CSC, is an Austin-based cinematographer whose work spans feature films, documentaries, commercials, and music videos around the world.

Simonite received an extraordinary early education working alongside Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki. He served as second-unit director of photography on Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life and contributed additional photography to Malick’s To the Wonder and Song to Song.

His feature credits include Jack Huston’s Day of the Fight, starring Michael Pitt, Joe Pesci, and Ron Perlman, which premiered at the Venice International Film Festival; Billy Luther’s Frybread Face and Me, which premiered at SXSW; Voice from the Stone, starring Emilia Clarke; and the box-office thriller The Perfect Guy.

A citizen of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, Simonite works internationally and brings an intuitive, story-driven approach to commercial filmmaking. His work includes campaigns for FedEx, Bayer, Intuit QuickBooks, Xfinity, Walmart, and Progressive, in collaboration with directors including Alma Har’el, Aircastle, Björn Rühmann, Dante Ariola, Max Sherman, Brian Billow, Jon and Torey, Similar But Different, Fiona Jane Burgess, and Benji Weinstein.

Deeply connected to his hometown’s filmmaking community, Simonite founded the Austin Cinematography Group to support filmmakers and advance the photographic and cinematic arts in Austin. He is a member of both the American Society of Cinematographers and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
